To truly master anything in design, we have to get down to the fundamentals. In this section of the course, we explore the definitions of the Elements and Principles of Design. From form and space to fragrance and texture, get a critical understanding of how ingredients work together and how to create balanced designs so you can quickly identify and fix design challenges.

DESIGN APPLICATIONS
Formulas change. Classic Design Applications give you the ability to mix and match no matter what the style dictates. In Design Applications, I’ll walk you through the definitions of key foundational design techniques that I consistently use in creating beautiful bouquets. From “bunching” to “veiling”, you’ll get a clear picture of what these critical applications mean and how they can be so effective. Consider these the bouquet building blocks that are loose, airy, full of movement, and efficient.

COLOR THEORY BASICS FOR BOUQUET DESIGN
Want to know how to build a compelling color story? In Color Theory, I walk you through the essentials so you can confidently choose tints, tones, shades and more. We’ll cover how the color wheel works and why it’s a “must” in my toolkit for every bouquet design I create. You’ll get introduced to the “principle of proportion” so you can consistently create a balanced color palette. Plus, you’ll get fresh design inspiration by focusing on utilizing one hero flower.

FOUNDATIONAL BOUQUET TECHNIQUES (SPIRAL LESSON)

I’ll show you how to avoid common pitfalls like traffic jams, broken stems, hand fatigue, overstuffing, overgreening, and overheating flowers. You’ll learn how to let the mechanics and geometry do the work for you, binding strategy, and how to make multiple bouquet shapes with the same technique.

ADVANCED HAND-TIED BRIDAL BOUQUET DESIGN

You’ll learn how to bring the color story to life and create pockets of color without polka dotting. I’ll show you how to mix and match mass, line, and form, which flowers work together, and how to create movement.
MODULE SIX
ADVANCED HAND-TIED CASCADE BOUQUET
Choose the right ingredients for a hand-tied cascade bouquet so you can create repeatable and dependably gorgeous results. I share a simple rubber band method for building a beautiful hand-tied spiral technique, no additional mechanics needed! You’ll learn how to prepare and edit your ingredients and place stems in order to create successful cascades, no matter the shape.

RIBBONING & WIRING
Learn how to complement your bouquets with secure, tasteful ribbon treatments. We’ll explore multiple ribbon treatments for different effects. I cover how to securely and efficiently wire orchids and ranunculus blooms for bouquet work. You’ll also learn how to hydrate wired blooms for bouquets.
MODULE EIGHT

HI, I'M AMY!
I teach florists how to design with confidence, intention, and strategy so they can value themselves, attract the work they want, and achieve their design goals.
But, let me give you some context…
TWO DECADES AGO, FLOWERS SAVED MY LIFE.
I was 19 years old and after making a string of bad life decisions, I had hit rock bottom.
I always dreamed of being a florist but had no idea where to start. I found a floral design class at a community college and nervously showed up. Under the fluorescent lights, with a bundle of pink mini carnations and a few stems of leather fern in hand, I fell in love with floral design.
I HAD PURPOSE & PASSION AGAIN.
After graduating from the accredited two year Floral Design and Shop Management program at Goldenwest College in 2003, I worked as a professional designer in retail shops and high-end special event production before opening my own business floral studio, Amy Nicole Floral, in 2012.
After starting my wedding business, I knew I wanted to create more artful bouquets but struggled to get the loose and airy style that I craved making.
I bought loads of courses and attended workshops to find answers but even as a professional designer, I ended up more confused, frustrated and discouraged that maybe I just wasn’t as good as my peers and that it might be time to hang up my flower apron.
I spent countless hours breaking stems, overstuffing bouquets, and wasting loads of time and money while still ending up with tight, heavy bouquets.
SOMETHING HAD TO CHANGE.
After lots of mistakes and self doubt, I finally dug back into my classical training and applied time-tested “old school” techniques with a new school approach and “BAM”...results! I had cracked the code on loose and airy bouquets and was able to get repeatable results!
Years later, I realized florists all over were struggling with the same challenges I had and I knew I could help. With my classical training and “in the trenches” experience, I started teaching designers the same techniques I used.
My unique ability to articulate design problems and solutions helps designers improve their design skills no matter their skill level.
